I would not have received a gift had I not known the gift giver. I'm ever amazed at how we try to make salvation a quick easy fix. Granted I am one of those preachers that believe it is really a pretty simple thing to experience what we refer to as the New Birth, yet how can we believe that we can receive a free gift from Someone that we do not know? I don't believe in salvation by works, but I do believe in works that are a result of my salvation.
Would I have ever experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit had I never had a relationship with Jesus Christ? I dare say the answer it a resounding NO. Some receive His Spirit only after a very brief relationship with Him that may only include a time of repentence and then worship, yet others may have that relationship for years before experience the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
Bottom line, it is a free gift. In the scripture it is clear that in the Upper Room they were "all" filled with the Holy Spirit. Further examples could be sited that show that "all" who desired it received it. Simply put it is for everyone.
If you are searching for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to grow your relationship with Jesus Christ, get to know the Gift Giver! If you don't have a church home come celebrate Jesus Christ with friends at Haven of Hope every Sunday morning at 10:30 AM.
